Instagram...the beginning of all of my adventures in do-it-yourself projects. My wife Lindsay stumbled across an profile of two sisters that build almost anything and everything. So as you can guess, I got suckered in by the simple comment "if they can do it, then so can you". Of course I had a comeback for that. If I was to start building some of these projects that Lindsay was discovering, I would need tools. Lots of tools.
So as I began to build my tool collection, I had to produce something to show for all of my spending. We had a blank wall in our living room that was in desperate need of something to fill it. Picture ledges were the perfect solution. This would be an easy enough build to get me comfortable and to produce something that looks good right off the bat. I followed these simple plans and quickly completed this project.
With the exception of the tools, the cost of this project was around $10 per shelf. Weeks later we saw similar shelves at West Elm for much more than I spent building these on my own. That was all the motivation I needed to begin building more projects. I stained the each ledge with kona stain, which is a perfect compliment to our current paint and floor color. I have a feeling I will be using this stain a lot in the future!
